Project Runway

So I’m a little obsessed with Project Runway.
I finally got around to watching episode two yesterday (since I have to catch them on the net), and I have a few comments….     (Warning:  Spoilers after the jump!!)

Valentine’s

I have been inspired by the Poppytalk blog a lot lately. The first thing I saw was their post about these Hello Handmade valentine’s! I SO want to learn calligraphy like that. Look at those birds!!!

Haiti

If you have a chance, go read this blog post at the Apparent Project. I randomly discovered it through a post on Ravelry.  They are working in Haiti, and the writer gives what I think is the best “reason” for the disaster.  Unlike many Christians, who are saying that this is God’s wrath on a sinful group of people, he makes the case for a a loving God who would rather take his anger out on Himself than make His children suffer.  The author believes that if anything, the earthquake was a consequence of human’s constant election of evil as king, rather than good…. Whew.

I’ve spent the day so far cleaning my house and getting some fiber ready to list in the shop. I feel way behind in everything- I have to work at 2 and I always feel a lot of pressure to get everything else done on the days I have to work!
One of my goals for today is to make some fancy Russian vocabulary flash cards.  And to work on the Trinket scarf….. Read the rest of this entry »

I’m turning 23 in June (June 4th, to be exact), and while I am quite the young’n (I realized that many people do not know my real age and are quite surprised to know this about me), I have some goals for the rest of this year of my life.

Gah!  I should be getting ready for the derby xmas party, but I am instead updating my blog with my failed progress at finding a suitable knitting pattern.

Here’s my conundrum:
I have two skeins each of Knitpicks Palatte in Edamame and Clover. Two very lovely shades of green.  I started making a ruffle scarf out of the edamame, but the darn ruffles are rolling up and I don’t want to deal with it anymore.  No pictures, sadly.  But I want some kind of scarf, something warm and drapey and not boring to knit.  I’d also like matching gloves or mitts.  I’m open to designing it myself.  I’m okay with something simple.

I’ve considered lace shawls, but I want something a little more substantial and scarf like.  I LOVE the Susie’s reading mitts here.  But what kind of scarf/cowl/neckwarmer/whatever will be complimentary and NOT be super boring???

GAH.  I have about 100 projects I could be working on, like my Lily of the Valley stole:

Somebody help me cure my knitting ADD!!!!!

Antiquity

My mom came to visit yesterday and we went to the giant antique store downtown.  I bought three lace hankies- they had stickers on them, which I thought was so cute.

They need to be ironed yet, but I really like them.

I’m also working on a super secret fancy knitting project, want to see?

Just a little bit.  I love colorwork!

Time for a real, honest to goodness update!

I’ve been pretty busy lately.

Finished my first PAIR of socks ever!  Kai-Mei, in Malabrigo sock yarn in Archangel.

It was pretty lucky I even finished these at all.  When I was on the very last inch of the toe, my dumb puppy (as I affectionately refer to her) snagged a needle out and chewed it to bits.  I’m not sure how it happened, but LUCKILY the set came with 5 needles, and I usually only use 4.  Hooray!

I had aMerry Christmas with my families – and got a couple really amazing Christmas gifts.  My mom gave me her old serger, and Matt’s parents got me a Knitpicks Options interchangeable needle set.  Which I highly recommend, by the way.

Matt, of course.

Nessa, queen of ugly sweaters.

Alanna, who opted not to wear her ugly sweater.  I can’t figure out why.

AJ, who is always just SO thrilled to be hanging out with the family.

Puppers, duh!

(these pictures depict the majority of my siblings- all but one; Samantha.  For some reason I have NO pictures of her from Christmas??  Sorry Sam.  She’s actually in Jamaica right now doing missions work.  Yay Sam!)

I’ve been experimenting with screenprinting:

I made shirts for all the gals on our roller derby team.  A team which I, unfortunately, will not be able to skate with until my dumb torn hamstring heals.  Blah.

Making some jewelery:

Working on some new projects to list in my etsy shop (which is sadly empty right now)

Messing around with Crayola watercolors.  I don’t claim to be a painter at all; I just decided to paint in some doodles I made at work.  I like it:

Knitting Citron from knitty with some of my handspun:

Actually crocheting something for the first time in years- a series of hexagon granny squares (from Attic24) in a variety of brightly colored wools.  If I can muster up an afghan, it is going in my living room – they are similar colors to what I already have.

Annnnnd last but not least, abstractly painting for my wall.

Sooooo, as I mentioned before, one of my goals for this year is actually posting more regularly.  I set up some office space in my living room for my computer and camera and all that stuff, so I should have no excuse.  Now if only I could get some more followers!
(Speaking of following, you can follow me on twitter now, too!  )
