Maiden Voyage

Yeah… I haven’t been spinning much at all lately… until Matt got me my Valentine’s, birthday, anniversary, and Christmas present:

Meet Perdita (yes, I named her after the girl dog in 101 Dalmations). She is an Ashford Traveler. I am pretty much in love. She spins like a dream.

So, I give you my first yarn on this beauty:

Its pretty ridiculous because I haven’t set the twist yet.

Merino, worsted, 2-ply, 113ish yards? Maybe 4 oz? I have to double check. But I’m a big fan. I LOVE these colors.

I have mostly been knitting lately- at work for the most part (yeah, I know, I have a dream job), because I’ve had a ton of other stuff to do at home. So this is what I’ve got:

#1 – my THIRD Laminaria. Knit out of knitpicks superwash sock yarn – dyed by me.

Bleh, of course it looks terrible right now. And in real life there’s not really any yellow in it. It’s more like another shade of green.

Look! A flower! Sort of.

#2 – my first Jaywalker – Also knit from knitpicks superwash sock yarn, dyed by me.

I am really enjoying these so far. Entertaining enough, but simple enough to show off the yarn.

I had my friend Becca over today, because she recently inherited a spinning wheel from her great-grandma, and she wanted to learn how to spin. So using my drop spindle, she came up with this:

I think it’s really good for the first time. Especially because I can’t for the life of me get the hang of the drop spindle.

Also, I took about a hundred pictures of my favorite kitty. I won’t bore you with them all, but here’s one. The rest are on my photostream :-)
